Cloud over El Salvador
Extracted from PAIGH-CAF-GeoSUR and GSDI: The National Registry Center (CNR) of El Salvador, Headquarters of the National Geographic and Cadastral Institute (IGCN), has become the first national mapping organisation in Latin America and the Caribbean to develop geospatial information services in the Cloud. Though presently a beta release, this is clearly a great development for planning and disaster-preparedness in El Salvador.

Free Journal Articles
The International Journal of Digital Earth has made a selection of remote sensing journal articles available online at no cost until the end of 2013. In addition, in celebration of Earth Day 2013 the publishers Taylor & Francis have also made a selection of GIS and other journals freely available until May 22, 2013.

Jamaica GIS
From the JIS via the GSDI: The Government of Jamaica has allocated J$30 Million for the National Spatial Plan Project and J$121 million to boost activities under the Cadastral Mapping and Land Registration Project (I estimate this totals US$1.5M). Jamaica's House of Representatives is presently considering these amounts as part of Jamaica's 2013/14 Estimates of Expenditure.

Map App Challenge for Students
From the OGC via GSDI: The OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) challenges students who have software development skills to create new applications that use OGC standards in innovative, interesting and fun ways. The OGC Map App challenge is open to any university student at the undergraduate or graduate level who is enrolled part or full time as of July 15, 2013. The deadline is midnight EST, July 15th, 2013.
